S/he creates efficient delivery models (instrumentation, sterilization), so the hygienist can provide the best clinical care and results.
S/he provides a calm and warm environment for patients who are otherwise anxious and concerned about what is going to happen next.
The clinical skills required for:
getting ready for anesthetic and the taking of x-rays are delivered with the best outcomes.
The dental hygiene assistant sets the tone for the appointment by engaging in purposeful conversations that identify patients' motivators and concerns and captures all pertinent information through effective and detailed charting skills.
The dental hygiene assistant supports patients' clinical and emotional needs by ensuring that patients want the treatment that they need.
S/He coordinates with the front office team to ensure seamless delivery and accountability for scheduling and follow-thru on financial arrangements.
A Dental Hygiene Assistant Duties Include, but are Not Limited To:
Take digital radiographs including vertical and horizontal bitewings, periapicals, full mouth series as well as film panoramic, bitewings, periapicals or occlusals as needed.
Take Itero scans and intraoral photographs to complete records and aid in treatment planning Reviewing and updating of medical history when applicable Prepare the patient for the appropriate procedures (seating, applying the topical, sealants, etc.
) Instruct patient in:
tooth brushing technique, flossing technique, aids and proxy, brush, perio aides, disclosing methods, electric toothbrushes and waterjets, oral rinses, anti-caries products, and nutrition.
Present the appropriate Guru/ CAESY presentations and educational literature including copies of patients perio charting when appropriate and highlight appropriate areas Support the Hygienist during the procedure through charting and any assistance needed such as polishing, flossing, placement of sealants (if certified) Assist the doctor when examining the hygiene patients.
Make sure the patient's record is complete and all services for the day's treatment are recorded.
Complete Clinic to Front Handoff sheet to the front desk and properly handoff patient at end of appointment.
Maintain proper sterilization-package instruments in their correct groupings and check bur blocks for completeness and order Put away instruments in rooms and keep supplies stocked Disinfection of the operatories between procedures Enter detailed and accurate notes with all the pertinent discussions of treatment recommendations, options, and timeline plans noted in the computer in a joint effort with the doctor or hygienist when necessary Communicate referral and medical consult information to other offices and patients and follow up on progress of referrals/medical consults Properly disposing of the biohazard bags in box downstairs Ensure nitrous and oxygen tanks are changed when needed Benefits include dental, medical insurance, vacation, sharing 401K and additional team bonuses.
